Department for Sustainable Return and Subsistence
The Department for Sustainable Return and Subsistence performs the following functions:
- Protection of rights and ensuring return of the expelled and internally displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija currently residing in Serbia, as well as the internally-internally displaced persons in Kosovo and Metohija;
- Reconstruction and construction of houses for the returnees, improvement of infrastructure, provision of humanitarian and emergency assistance for the vulnerable Serbian and non-Albanian population in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as for the families of the returnees;
- Implementation of decisions of the Social Work Centers and child-protection services, through the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, concerning the recognition of right to social assistance for the economically vulnerable families, persons with disabilities, returnee families, families of the kidnapped and the missing; children and family allowances;
- Informing the Social Work Centers and the interested citizens about the recognized and accomplished social security benefits;
- Registration and processing of submissions, as well as informing the legal entities and natural persons in Kosovo and Metohija regarding the exercise of their rights related to work and gender relations;

Cooperation with the National Employment Service and proposing measures to improve public information on job vacancies and job opportunities in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as benefits available to both the unemployed and the employers.
The Department is also responsible for:- Maintaining daily operational contacts with the UN civilian and military missions in Kosovo and Metohija (UNMIK and KFOR), and with their legal successors.
- Monitoring personnel and material resources of international missions present in Kosovo and Metohija.
- Monitoring implementation of the constitutional framework for Kosovo and Metohija and proposal of available measures to the international missions in Kosovo and Metohija.
- Monitoring the compliance of the provisional institutions of self-government with international standards in the field of human rights.
- Coordination of the cooperation between the competent bodies of the Republic of Serbia and competent institutions of UNMIK administration in order to provide the security and legal protection to the members of national communities; and other.
