    • State Secretary for Kosovo and Metohija Oliver Ivanović meets with delegation from Foreign Affairs Committee of UK Parliament

    •
    • Date: 12.October 2009.

BELGRADE – State Secretary for Kosovo and Metohija, Oliver Ivanović, today met with the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the UK Parliament led by Sir John Stanley.

The main topics of discussion were the political and security situation in Kosovo and Metohija as well as the impact of economic situation on the stability in the region.

The special emphasis was placed on the upcoming elections in Kosovo and Metohija and the participation of Serbs in them.

State Secretary reiterated the position of the President and the Government of Serbia that there are no conditions for Serbs to participate in the elections scheduled for November 15.

“Serbs who decide to participate in these elections will not be legally sanctioned but their votes will have disputable legitimacy. Participation in the elections and entering the so-called Kosovo institutions will not improve the situation for the Serbs in the southern Serbian Province. We need to find the right model for establishment of new municipalities because it is of great importance for the subsistence of the Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija, but the upcoming elections based on the Ahtisaari plan cannot present such a model,“ Ivanović concluded.
