Đurić: We reached important agreements for our people in Kosovo and Metohija

April 20, 2016

Early this morning Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Đurić said that, after over 18 hours of talks with the representatives of Priština in Brussels, agreements have been reached on ID cards, cargo truck traffic, visits of our officials to Kosovo and Metohija and the 2016 elections.

Underlining that imprtant arrangements have been reached for the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija in "four fundamental" areas, Đuric told Tanjug that the ID cards which have been issued by our government, would continue to be freely used in Kosovo and Metohija and added that talks on ID cards would continue in the future.

"There will be no blockades, no obstacles," said Đurić.

Đurić said that an agreement was reached concerning the transport of dangerous cargo and that the blockade on the cargo truck traffic would be lifted on Monday, 25 April so there would be no more hangups for our trucks entering central Serbia. As to elections slated for 24 April, they would be held on the same model as those held in 2014, with the presence of the OSCE.

Đurić stated that it was established that there would be 90 polling stations in Kosovo and Metohija.

Đurić said that there will be no entry ban to Serbian officials who wish to visit Kosovo and Metohija, and announced that he would be visiting Kosovo and Metohija the next day in "the most normal way possible."

Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija said that, as far as he can remember, negotiations were "never as long or difficult" and stressed that the achieved results were due to "weeks of diplomatic efforts" which, as he said, also involved the Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić and other officials.

"In my opinion we have achieved much and have ensured a good result for our country and our people in Kosovo and Metohija," Đurić concluded.
