President of Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vučić, called for the “more serious and bolder talks about future relations” between Belgrade and Pristina and asked for an accelerated accession of Serbia to the European Union at today’s meeting with Head of the EU diplomacy, Ms. Federica Mogherini.

After the talk with Provincial President, Mr. Hashim Thaci, at Mogherini’s office, Vučić told reporters that they agreed to resume the dialogue and to implement the previously concluded agreements.

“Establishment of the Community of Serbian Municipalities is a done deal, there will be no further negotiations on that matter”, said Vučić to reporters.

Serbian president stated that he asked for an accelerated accession of Serbia to the EU, noting that preparations for continuing the dialogue require a month and a half, and underlined it was not ruled out that the dialogue may continue at the presidential level.

“We ought to talk about future relations with greater seriousness and courage”, declared Vučić, and added that the matter of the level is just a technical one.

“Essentially, interlocutors will be whomever the parties appoint. This is a technical matter and it is not of key importance. There are much more important issues than the technical ones”, he emphasized.

When asked if they talked about the Community of Serbian Municipalities (CSM), he said that the CSM was an obligation that goes without saying.

“Community of Serbian Municipalities is inferred as matter that must be implemented. There’s no doubt about that”, noted Vučić, and added that the talks had primarily to do with relations between the Serbs and the Albanians.

Vučić also told that he asked for an accelerated accession of Serbia to the EU, announcing a meeting with President of the EU Council, Mr. Donald Tusk, on July 14, in Brussels.

The European Union External Action Service (EEAS) press release cites that Vučić and Thaci agreed today to work on launching a new phase of the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština for the normalization of the relations and reconciliation.

In addition, according to the same press release, Vučić and Thaci decided that the respective teams should begin with preparations, and underlined importance of the immediate implementation of agreements reached in the dialogue so far.
